Census 2020

Vision Urbana, Inc. is on the frontline implementing its Census 2020 Campaign...

VISION URBANA LAUNCHES ITS CENSUS 2020 DOOR HANGER BLITZ URGING RESIDENTS TO BE COUNTED...

By mobilizing a massive grassroots outreach effort to NYCHA residents in the Lower East Side, and placing our custom bilingual Census 2020 door hanger on the front door knob of every NYCHA apartment in the Lower East Side! There are more than 14,000 NYCHA apartments that house thousands of low income and hard to reach residents in this community. Each resident deserves to be counted to ensure that the greatest City in the world receives its fair share of federal support, which include Medicaid, SNAP Benefits (Food Stamps), Section 8 housing vouchers, funds for schools, hospitals, highways and more! This is all determined through the Census! If we are not counted, then we won't count and our communities will not have access to this much needed funding. An accurate census count is vital and too many are not participating! Please call us at (646) 945-2705 for any help or questions on the 2020 Census.

For Census Week of Action, Vision Urbana will make sure that every NYCHA apartment door is reached! It is important for every NYCHA resident - on the lease or off the lease - to be counted! There is no immigration status question and you will not be negatively impacted by completing your census! The Vision Urbana Census campaign is going beyond providing census information in pantry bags/boxes, to hanging information in English, Spanish and Chinese on every NYCHA apartment door across all NYCHA developments on the Lower East Side.

Vision Urbana Inc. became one of the few local grassroots and community-based organizations awarded Complete Count Funding through the City of New York & CUNY, and became one of only twelve Manhattan non-profit organizations awarded through the Make Manhattan Count Census 2020 initiative awarded by the Manhattan Borough President Gale Brewer’s Office. The Make Manhattan Count project “awarded a total of $52,000 to 12 community-based organizations that came up with creative solutions to reach historically under-counted communities such as people of color, recent immigrants, young children, renters, formerly incarcerated people, and the homeless.” Manhattan Borough President Gale Brewer.”

Vision Urbana has taken this mandate seriously to make sure that every LES resident is counted. Vision Urbana is working closely with the offices of Council Member Margaret Chin and of Council Member Carlina Rivera, who is the Co-Chair of the 2020 Census Task Force. Both represent thousands of NYCHA residents. “There are few government actions that will have as big of an impact on New York State as the 2020 Census, and I will work to ensure that the greatest number of New Yorkers are able to turn out to make their voices heard. We need to treat this census with the scale and seriousness it deserves,” New York City Council Member Carlina Rivera, Co-Chair of the Council’s 2020 Census Task Force
